The last true Muscle car - 1973 Pontiac Trans Am Firebird! Pontiac produced only 252 vehicles with the Super Duty 455 motor in 1973.Rated by the factory at 290 horsepower, Trans Am aficionados and hot rod experts know the truth-over 375 horses run under the hood! With the oil crisis on the horizon, 252 people got one last piece of muscle car heaven in 1973. (This replica is a little over 8 inches long!)
Pontiac was a great success for GM starting in the late 1920's when it replaced the Oakland. But for the returning GIs of WWII its styling and straight-8 engine seemed old and stodgy. In 1955 this all changed as the Pontiac was remade inside and out. The completely new chassis and frame was longer, lower and more rounded. Under the hood, the straight-8 with its 127 horsepower was gone, replaced by a new Over Head Valve 180 Horsepower V-8. Sales almost doubled 1954's total as 554,090 were produced giving Pontiac its best sales year ever. Dad would certainly like this replica - of a precision die-cast 1955 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Catalina hardtop...every detail from the original, duplicated in exact 1:18 scale.
